BWI invites the BBA to discuss minorities and boating.
Boating Writers International (BWI) invited the BBA to participate in discussions, exploring the barriers that minorities (Hispanics, African-Americans and Women) face in boating. The discussions were held October 31, 2008, at the Bahia Mar Hotel Complex, Ft. Lauderdale, FL. The attendees included numerous writers, editors and publishers from across the country that focused on the boating industry. The BBA presentation included "real" and "perceived" barriers to African-Americans and other diverse groups becoming involved in boating. The discussions were extremely beneficial in highlighting actions that would be effective in addressing these perceptions. The Boating Writers International included the BBA in their November 2008 BWI Journal.
Diversity on Deck (Great Lakes Boating Magazine)
In their last issue, they profiled increasing female participation (“Women at the Helm”). Here, through the first-person accounts of two member-officers of the Black Boaters Club of America, the Great Lakes Boating Magazine took a look at personal stories of minorities who discovered a love of boating.
